Labour Party Reserves Presidential and Gubernatorial Tickets for 2027 Elections, Urges President Tinubu to Address Insecurity and Inflation

Following a convention held on Wednesday, the Labour Party (LP) has announced its decision to reserve its presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections for Peter Obi, the party’s candidate in the 2023 election. Similarly, the LP has also earmarked its gubernatorial ticket for Abia State for Alex Otti in the upcoming 2027 elections.

A communiqué issued after the convention, signed by Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively, highlighted the party’s endorsement of both Obi and Otti based on their performances and contributions.

Additionally, the LP addressed pressing national issues, urging President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action in tackle rising insecurity and inflation in the country. The party emphasised the need for proactive measures to revive the economy and alleviate the suffering of Nigerians amidst soaring inflation and unemployment rates.

The convention also underscored the importance of utilizing political power for the betterment of the nation, emphasising the significance of effective governance beyond mere acquisition of power.

Furthermore, the LP expressed gratitude to its members for their unwavering support during the 2023 general elections and encouraged the consolidation of party structures at all levels.

Among the elected national officers of the party are Clement Ojukwu and Dr. Ayo Olunrufemi as Deputy National Chairmen, and Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the National Secretary. However, three positions, including Deputy National Chairmen for NLC and TUC, remain vacant, with the convention empowering the National Working Committee to fill these vacancies.

The LP remains optimistic about the future and reaffirms its commitment to addressing the challenges facing the nation while striving for growth and development.
