In preparation for the annual Access Bank Lagos City Marathon scheduled for Saturday, February 10th, 2024, the Lagos State Government has released a traffic advisory detailing temporary route closures to facilitate the event.

From 5:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, motorists are advised that the following routes will be inaccessible:

A. Funsho Williams Avenue from Stadium, Surulere
B. Ikorodu Road to Anthony
C. Gbagada to Third Mainland Bridge
D. Third Mainland Bridge (Inbound and Outbound)
E. Dolphin Road to Alfred Rewane Road
F. Falomo Roundabout to Bourdillon Road
G. Lekki Bridge to Freedom Way
H. Akin-Adesola to Ahmadu Bello Way

To accommodate the diversions, alternative routes have been provided:

Scene 1:
Motorists can utilise the Apongbon Bridge inwards to the Eko Bridge through the Costain Roundabout, Iponri, and Bode Thomas, or opt for the Eko Bridge through the Costain Roundabout and Apapa Road to reach Oyingbo/Jebba, then access Herbert Macaulay Road.
Scene 2:
Another option is to navigate through Victoria Island to link Independence Bridge and CMS Bridge, accessing Apongbon inwards from Ijora-Olopa to Iddo and Oyingbo, then connect to Herbert Macaulay Road.

For motorists planning to use the Third Mainland Bridge, please note that it will be closed from 12:00 am until the conclusion of the marathon.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured that outbound journeys from Ikorodu Road and Funsho Williams Avenue en route to Lagos Island are exempt from diversion. Additionally, officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed to diversion points to ensure smooth traffic flow and motorists’ safety.

While advising motorists with no urgent business along the marathon routes to avoid the areas, Commissioner Osiyemi emphasised that normal traffic conditions on the Third Mainland Bridge will resume promptly after the marathon concludes.
