Lagos Police Arrest Notorious Assassin ‘Olori Eso’ In Major Breakthrough Against Violent Crime.

In a significant victory for law enforcement, the Lagos State Police Command announced the arrest of Wasiu Akinwande, alias Olori Eso, a 44-year-old notorious hired killer and cultist kingpin, on Friday, 20 June 2025. The operation, codenamed “Silence, Speed, and Surprise,” marks a pivotal moment in the fight against violent crime in Lagos, particularly in the Mushin area, where Akinwande and his gang have terrorised residents for over a decade.

The Tactical Squad operatives of the Lagos State Police Command tracked Akinwande to his hideout in the Agbado area of Ogun State, apprehending him after years of evading capture. Described as Lagos’ most wanted suspect in recent times, Akinwande is accused of orchestrating a string of heinous crimes, including armed robberies, cold-blooded murders, kidnappings, and cult-related killings. His reign of terror, spanning from 2009 to 2024, instilled fear and trauma in communities, leaving families devastated by the loss of loved ones.

Following a raid on his residence in Mushin, police recovered an alarming cache of weapons and incriminating items, which Akinwande admitted were used in his criminal operations. The haul included two AK-47 rifles, one K2 assault rifle, one Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally made single-barrel pistols, five magazines, 57 live cartridges, 70 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one expended 5.56mm round, a dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports belonging to various individuals.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, hailed the arrest as a testament to the Command’s unwavering commitment to public safety. “This breakthrough underscores our resolve to rid Lagos of violent crime and ensure the security of all residents,” he said. CP Jimoh commended the bravery and dedication of the Tactical Squad and urged Lagosians to continue supporting the police by providing timely information to aid crime-fighting efforts.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has been tasked with leading a team of elite detectives to expand the investigation, aiming to apprehend other suspects linked to Akinwande’s criminal network. Four families have already identified him as the perpetrator behind the killings of their loved ones, and further investigations are expected to uncover additional connections to his high-profile crimes.

Akinwande is currently in custody under heavy security and will face the full weight of the law for his alleged crimes. The Lagos State Police Command has reassured residents that their safety remains the top priority, calling for continued vigilance and cooperation in reporting suspicious activities. “Lagos will be a no-go area for criminals,” CP Jimoh vowed, pledging to sustain efforts to maintain peace and security for all Lagosians and visitors.

The arrest has sparked hope among residents, particularly in Mushin, where communities have lived under the shadow of Akinwande’s gang for years. Social media posts on X reflected widespread relief, with users praising the police for their determination and calling for justice for the victims.

The Lagos State Police Command has promised to make the outcome of ongoing investigations public, urging residents to remain patient and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station. This landmark operation signals a brighter, safer future for Lagos as the fight against crime gains momentum.
