Lagos State Declares It Is Ready For Festive Season Tourism Activities

“Multi-Agency Stakeholders Convene to Ensure Safe, Smooth, and Enjoyable Festive Season Across Lagos”

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its comprehensive readiness for a smooth, safe, and vibrant festive season, as key tourism and infrastructure agencies conclude high-level planning ahead of December’s peak activities. This assurance followed a multi-agency stakeholders’ engagement held at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the strategic meeting—tagged “Unlocking the Potentials and Opportunities of Lagos Tourism: Collaboration and Partnership for a Greater Lagos”—brought together government agencies, private operators, and industry leaders to harmonise plans for the year-end festivities and enhance the overall visitor experience.

The engagement, convened by the ministry, served as a platform for critical stakeholders to discuss coordinated approaches to crowd management, traffic control, entertainment programming, waterfront operations, and safety during the yuletide season.

Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, reiterated Lagos’ position as Nigeria’s leading tourism destination, welcoming millions of residents, visitors, and diaspora returnees each December. She emphasized the economic significance of the festive period and the necessity for seamless collaboration across the tourism value chain.

She noted:
“The upcoming festive period presents significant economic opportunities that can only be maximised through effective coordination among government agencies, private operators, and industry players.

The State Government is fully committed to ensuring that all activities across the tourism, entertainment, and hospitality ecosystem are safe, well-regulated, and enjoyable for tourists, entertainers, fun seekers, and residents at large.”

Benson-Awoyinka added that strengthened inter-agency collaboration and improved service delivery will help Lagos deliver its most organised festive season to date, reinforcing its reputation as West Africa’s cultural and entertainment capital. She urged stakeholders to uphold regulatory standards and global best practices, reiterating the ministry’s readiness to work closely with partners to deliver a world-class festive experience in December and beyond.

Waterfront and Transportation Agencies Announce Heightened Preparedness

Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Yacoob Alebiosu, assured stakeholders that the government is intensifying efforts to secure and manage waterfront corridors during the season.

He explained that the ministry is collaborating with LASWA and maritime agencies to strengthen jetty management, enhance surveillance, and curb unsafe boarding and overcrowding.

“The ministry is committed to providing a clean, secure, and functional waterfront environment that supports both tourism and transportation activities,” he said.

Similarly, Commissioner for Transportation, Seun Osiyemi, confirmed that Lagos is fully prepared to manage the increased movement of people and goods during the festivities.

He disclosed that the government has activated a state-wide traffic management plan integrating road, water, and intermodal transport systems, alongside extending operational hours for key public transport services.

He also highlighted improved coordination with security agencies to ensure smooth mobility around major event corridors.

General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, further revealed that over 2,000 officers will be strategically positioned along critical routes—such as Lekki-Epe, Victoria Island, Ajah, Ikeja, and Ikorodu—to ensure seamless traffic flow and quick response to congestion throughout the season.

On water transportation, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Blue Economy, Damilola Emmanuel, and the Managing Director of Lagferry, Abdoulbaq Balogun, reiterated that strict safety protocols will be enforced. These include increased patrols, mandatory life jacket use, and extended ferry operations to accommodate higher passenger demand.

Safety and Environmental Regulations to Be Strictly Enforced

The Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola (represented by Olubunmi Jegede), outlined mandatory safety compliance measures for event organisers.

He listed requirements such as trained safety marshals, availability of ambulances and firefighting equipment, proper crowd-control systems, and clearly marked emergency exits. Pre-event audits and continuous monitoring will be intensified throughout December.

General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Tunde Ajayi, emphasised that despite the surge in concerts, parties, and nightlife activities, environmental standards—especially noise regulations—will be strictly enforced to preserve residents’ rights to a peaceful atmosphere while still supporting Lagos’ renowned entertainment culture.
