The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to landlords and leaders of community development associations, urging them to promptly adhere to the government’s directive ensuring accessibility of all interlink roads within the state during the Christmas and New Year season.
The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed this information in a statement released to newsmen on Sunday. According to Taofiq, the government’s commitment to creating a safe and secure environment is facing serious challenges from those violating street-gate laws.
The acting General Manager of LASTMA, Bakare Oki, emphasized that the policy of street gates is intended to simplify access for residents and other road users in the state. Oki expressed the state government’s strong disapproval of drivers and pedestrians being obstructed from using community gates before the designated time.
Oki pointed out that the illegal closure of these gates not only hinders the free movement of residents but also supports criminal activities, making it more difficult for law enforcement to rescue victims or apprehend offenders.
Taofiq highlighted that the affected communities’ actions have further complicated the smooth flow of traffic in those areas, where the closure of gates impedes the public’s ability to drive through. The statement stressed that compliance with government regulations is crucial to maintaining order and ensuring the safety of residents during the festive season.
