Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) during a visit to Beijing, China.
This strategic partnership aims to enhance the quality of the road network and infrastructure in Lagos State.
The agreement, announced on Wednesday by Governor Sanwo-Olu through his official account on X.com, highlights the state’s commitment to improving the lives of its citizens through better transport infrastructure.
The project will focus on constructing the Lekki-Epe Link Bridge, which is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve the commute experience within the Lekki-Epe axis.
“We believe that good roads and transport infrastructure are essential for the growth of Lagos State,” Sanwo-Olu stated. “Our strategic transport masterplan is not just a blueprint; it’s a commitment to improving the lives of all Lagosians. By focusing on key road networks, we aim to reduce traffic congestion and support economic growth.”
In addition to the road network project, Governor Sanwo-Olu also signed a separate MoU to implement solar power systems across several tertiary institutions in the state. The initiative will include Lagos State University and its campuses, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State College of Medicine.
These solar power systems, expected to generate about 50 MW, aim to provide cleaner and more affordable electricity to the institutions. “This project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable energy as a key part of our economic development,” the governor added.
