In a grand recognition of his outstanding governance, Governor Dikko Umar Radda has been bestowed with the prestigious title of the “Top Governor of 2023” by Leadership Newspapers.

This esteemed accolade underscores Governor Radda’s remarkable leadership and transformative impact on Katsina State since assuming office in May 29, 2023.

Governor Radda’s commitment to efficient governance was evident right from the start of his tenure. He initiated a comprehensive workforce verification and signed into law the Treasury Single Account (TSA) Bill, emphasizing a commitment to financial prudence and transparency. These strategic measures aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the civil service by plugging financial leakages and ensuring adherence to fiscal instructions.

One of the hallmarks of Governor Radda’s administration has been its unwavering focus on security. Recognizing the imperative need for a safe and secure environment, he pioneered community-driven policing within a short span of five months in office. This innovative approach not only prioritized intelligence gathering but also aimed to build trust and cooperation between security agencies and local communities.

The governor’s dedication to combating banditry materialized through concrete actions, including the approval of the recruitment of 2,400 youths into the Community Watch Corps (CWC). Additionally, 1,456 officers were trained and equipped to actively engage in the fight against criminal activities. Financial support was robust, with the governor approving the monthly release of N10 million to local government councils for running costs.

Education also witnessed a significant boost under Governor Radda’s leadership. He spearheaded a comprehensive school infrastructure development program, fulfilling promises to S-Power beneficiaries by granting permanent recruitment to 7,000 S-Power primary and secondary school teachers. Furthermore, the governor’s commitment to educational advancement was evidenced by the approval of N2.7 billion for the construction of 75 secondary schools in collaboration with the World Bank project, AGILE.

In the healthcare sector, Governor Radda’s administration embarked on groundbreaking initiatives, including the construction of a state-of-the-art dialysis center at Gen. Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital. Once completed, this facility will stand as the first of its kind in the northern part of Nigeria, significantly enhancing the state’s capacity to provide specialized medical services, particularly in renal care.

Governor Radda’s dedication to agricultural and rural development manifested through key initiatives promoting sustainable agriculture. Immediate distribution of irrigation equipment to support farmers and collaborative efforts with Surwash to provide pipe-borne water to Batagrawa and Katsina local government areas underscored the administration’s commitment to improving living standards in rural communities.

Transportation infrastructure also witnessed significant strides, with ongoing road projects promising improved connectivity and economic growth. Initiatives such as the upgrade of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport and the procurement of new buses for the Katsina State Transport Authority were crucial components of the governor’s commitment to overall development.

Addressing infrastructure deficits head-on, Governor Radda’s administration invested in road rehabilitation, electricity, and water provision. The “Top Governor of 2023” award from Leadership Newspapers is a testament to Governor Dikko Umar Radda’s exemplary leadership, numerous achievements, and forward-thinking initiatives that have left an indelible mark on Katsina State.
