Liverpool Set To Seal Club-Record Deal For Florian Wirtz In Sensational Summer Move

Liverpool Set To Seal Club-Record Deal For Florian Wirtz In Sensational Summer Move.

Liverpool FC have sent shockwaves through the footballing world, reportedly securing the signature of Bayer Leverkusen’s prodigious attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz in a club-record transfer deal. The 22-year-old German superstar, widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in global football, is set to join the Premier League champions in a move that could redefine Arne Slot’s squad for the 2025-26 season.

According to multiple sources, including reports from The Athletic and Sky Sports, Liverpool have submitted an improved offer of £113 million (€134 million), comprising a £100 million base fee and £13 million in potential add-ons, edging closer to Leverkusen’s £126 million (€150 million) valuation. While negotiations over the payment structure continue, the consensus is that Wirtz has given the “green light” to a move to Anfield, with personal terms already agreed upon. The contract, rumored to span until 2030, could see Wirtz earn up to £18.5 million per season, positioning him as one of Liverpool’s highest earners, behind only Mohamed Salah and possibly Virgil van Dijk.

Wirtz, who dazzled with 16 goals and 15 assists in the 2024-25 campaign, has been the creative heartbeat of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side, helping them secure a second-placed finish in the Bundesliga. Since his debut in 2019-20, the 29-cap Germany international has amassed an astonishing 122 goal contributions (57 goals, 65 assists) in 197 matches, earning praise as a “generational talent” and comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne from former players like Jermaine Pennant.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Wirtz has been relentless, with the Reds outmaneuvering rivals Bayern Munich and Manchester City, who reportedly balked at the financial demands. Former Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller hinted at the move, admitting it may “take a while” to finalize details but suggesting Wirtz’s desire to join Liverpool is clear. The transfer follows Liverpool’s earlier coup of signing Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen for £29.5 million, signaling an aggressive start to the summer window under Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes.

The move has sparked excitement among fans and pundits alike. Gary Neville, speaking to the Liverpool Echo, expressed being “impressed but not surprised” by Liverpool’s ambition, noting, “So to get those three done, if they were to get those three done quite quickly, would be smart business.” Meanwhile, Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann cautioned that Wirtz must join a club where he’d be a focal point, a role Liverpool appear ready to offer as part of Slot’s attacking vision.

However, doubts linger. Pundits Micah Richards and Alan Shearer, via The Mirror, questioned whether Wirtz can adapt to the Premier League’s physicality, despite lauding his technical brilliance. Bayer Leverkusen have rejected two prior bids, holding firm on their £126 million asking price, but reports from Bild and The Telegraph suggest a deal is “imminent” and could be finalized within days.

Wirtz himself has fueled speculation, subtly dismissing claims about wanting Alexis Mac Allister’s No. 10 shirt via Instagram, a move interpreted by many as confirmation of his intent to join. With medical tests reportedly scheduled for early next week, according to German outlet KSTA, Liverpool fans are on the edge of their seats for what could be a historic signing.

This blockbuster transfer, if completed, would smash Liverpool’s previous record and potentially eclipse the British record of £115 million set by Chelsea for Moises Caicedo in 2023. As the Reds build on their Premier League title triumph and early Champions League qualification, the addition of Wirtz alongside Frimpong and potentially Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez signals a bold new era at Anfield.

Stay tuned for updates as Liverpool close in on a deal that could shape the future of the club and the Premier League.
