Man Dies After Jumping Into Well Following Drug Use In Ilorin.

A tragic incident unfolded in Ilorin, Kwara State, where a 43-year-old man, identified as Kazeem from the Edun area, lost his life after allegedly consuming a hard drug known as “Colo” (Colorado) and jumping into a well.

The unfortunate event occurred last Friday, shortly after Kazeem returned home from Eid prayers. Sources report that, under the influence of the substance, he leapt into a domestic well at Alapo Compound, Edun, Ilorin.

Following a distress call, the Kwara State Fire Service promptly dispatched personnel to the scene. Hassan Adekunle, the service’s spokesman, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday.

“Our control room received a distress call at approximately 10:29 a.m., reporting that a man had fallen into a well,” Adekunle stated. “Our firefighters were immediately mobilised and successfully recovered the lifeless body of the victim.”

Adekunle added that the man, identified as Kazeem, had allegedly taken the drug “Colo” prior to the incident. The body was subsequently handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the ‘C’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ilorin. Authorities are awaiting formal identification and claim of the body by the victim’s family.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, seized the opportunity to caution the public against drug abuse. He emphasised that substance misuse frequently leads to preventable and tragic consequences.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of drug use, with authorities urging the community to remain vigilant and seek help for those struggling with addiction.
