Mbappe’s Absence Only A “One-Off Measure” Says Deschamps

Deschamps Explains Mbappe’s Absence from France’s Nations League Squad.

France manager Didier Deschamps has clarified that the decision to exclude team captain Kylian Mbappe from the squad for this month’s Nations League fixtures against Israel and Italy is a “one-off” measure.

Despite being fit and available for selection, Mbappe, who transferred to Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain on a free move last summer, was not included in the lineup for the upcoming matches. Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Deschamps shared insights into the reasoning behind his choice, stressing that it was for this set of matches only.

“I’ve had discussions with him; it is a decision that I took for this block of matches only,” Deschamps explained. “Kylian wanted to come.” The manager’s comments suggest a carefully considered decision aimed at easing Mbappe’s workload, possibly in light of his recent struggles to find his best form at Madrid.

Since his high-profile move to the Bernabeu, the 25-year-old forward has experienced a mixed run, netting eight goals in 15 appearances but only scoring once in his last five matches. Real Madrid, currently nine points adrift of rivals Barcelona, were also handed a heavy 4-0 defeat by the Catalan giants last month, raising concerns over the team’s and Mbappe’s current form.

Mbappe, who has an impressive international record with 48 goals in 86 caps for France, was initially left out of the French squad in October after a recent injury, with the expectation that he would return to action this month. However, Deschamps’ latest decision reflects a cautious approach as the French team prepares for critical Nations League fixtures.

Fans and analysts alike will watch closely to see if this decision aids Mbappe in regaining his sharpness as he returns to club duties and gears up for future international commitments with Les Bleus.
