Abubakar Momoh, the Minister of Niger Delta Development (MNDD), has emphasized the need for collaboration between the ministry and International Oil Companies (IOCs) to propel the development of the Niger Delta region.
Momoh revealed that President Bola Tinubu is endorsing new strategies devised by the ministry’s management, aiming to foster greater synergy for comprehensive regional development.
Addressing the financial challenges faced by the ministry, Momoh stated in a release, “This initiative for support from stakeholders like you is very important for the current relative peace and security in the region to be improved upon.” He emphasised the importance of seamless implementation of government policies, projects, and programmes for the well-being of the people while also creating a conducive environment for investments and business in the region.
Momoh highlighted the ministry’s significant progress in infrastructure development and human capacity enhancement in the Niger Delta. He outlined high-impact programmes addressing peace and security, youth and women empowerment, the establishment of host community trust funds, tackling gas flaring, oil theft, and bunkering issues, along with an increase in corporate social responsibility and a strategic implementation work plan.
During the collaborative meeting, the Permanent Secretary of MNDD, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, encouraged IOCs and stakeholders to approach the gathering with a sense of purpose and open-mindedness, aiming to add substantial value to the lives of people in the Niger Delta region.
Representatives from NDDC, Seplat-Energy, Total Energies, Chevron, Oando, SPDC, NAOC, PAN OCEAN, and NNPC were present at the meeting, reflecting a concerted effort from key players in the oil and gas sector to contribute to the development of the Niger Delta.
