The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address concerns regarding incompetent individuals within his administration. In a press conference held in Abuja,

NANS President Comrade Pedro Obi voiced apprehension over the capabilities of the Minister of State for Youth Development and the SSA to the President on Student Engagement.

Obi, accompanied by fellow students, staged a peaceful protest at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), underscoring NANS’ commitment to safeguarding the interests of Nigerian students.

“The message is clear: there are individuals in key positions displaying incompetence, to the detriment of the youth community,” Obi emphasised. “President Tinubu has the opportunity to appoint competent youths who can effectively serve the nation.”

Highlighting President Tinubu’s belief in Nigerian youths and his track record of offering them opportunities, Obi reaffirmed NANS’ determination not to be intimidated. “NANS will continue to uphold its dignity and advocate for the betterment of Nigerian students,” he declared.

In response, Dr. Maurice Nnamdi Mbaeri, representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, assured NANS of relaying their grievances to the appropriate authorities. “Your concerns will be brought to the attention of Mr. President,” Mbaeri assured. “President Tinubu holds a profound love for Nigerian youths and students, evident in his policies geared towards their advancement.”

Mbaeri urged NANS to maintain peace and avoid actions that could sour relations with the President. “I implore you to continue fostering peace and tranquilly, ensuring that Mr. President’s goodwill towards you remains intact,” he concluded.

The assurance from the government representative signals a potential response from President Tinubu’s administration to address the issues raised by NANS.
