In a recent media briefing held in Abuja, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (EVC/CEO) of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Khalil Halilu, revealed the agency’s ambitious plans to manufacture a range of high-tech products domestically.

Among these products are laptops, android smartphones, lithium batteries, and solar street lamps.

Halilu emphasized that this initiative is a pivotal step towards developing national brands that can effectively compete in both local and international markets.

He highlighted that the agency’s efforts extend beyond the production of these newly announced items, citing existing innovations such as solar irrigation systems, electric tricycles, and motorcycles as examples of NASENI’s commitment to technological advancement.

The CEO underscored NASENI’s mandate to domesticate technology in both capital and consumer goods, positioning the agency as a key player in Nigeria’s industrial and economic growth.

He stressed the importance of technology transfer and commercialization of research and development (R&D) products to create job opportunities, foster wealth creation, and reduce the nation’s dependency on imported goods.

Halilu outlined NASENI’s strategic approach, focusing on the principles of creation, collaboration, and commercialization. He emphasized the agency’s engagement with public and private sector partners to ensure that its innovations reach end-users effectively.

Responding to inquiries about the sustainability of these products in the market, Halilu expressed confidence in NASENI’s business development unit, stating that the agency is committed to delivering value at competitive prices. He highlighted plans to distribute the products nationwide through partnerships with other government agencies and local agents.

Additionally, Halilu revealed NASENI’s collaboration with the private sector in exploring the manufacturing of the first solar mounting ramp in West Africa, further demonstrating the agency’s commitment to innovation and industrial development.

Among NASENI’s achievements and ongoing projects are the development of various technological platforms such as the NASENI Proposal Evaluation Portal, NASENI Growth Hacker, NASENI ERP, and NASENI eProcurement, showcasing the agency’s dedication to leveraging technology for national advancement.
