In Lagos State, and across Nigeria, members of the Take It Back Movement and the Nigeria labour congress staged a protest against government indifference to the plight of Nigerians after the NLC and representatives of the government led by President Bola Tinubu, failed to reach a resolution during a two-day meeting.
The deadlock ensued despite last-minute efforts by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to prevent the protest by inviting labour leaders for discussions.
The meeting, attended by key government officials including ministers and the Director General of the Department of State Service (DSS), ended without a consensus. In response, NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, declared that the scheduled protests would proceed as planned, calling on security agents to ensure the safety of demonstrators.
Concerns over potential clashes arose following warnings from the DSS against the protest. Nevertheless, the NLC stated that their constitutional right to peaceful assembly and vowed to press ahead with their demands for addressing economic challenges facing Nigerians.
The Rising inflation and high cost of living have fueled discontent among citizens, prompting various groups to demand action from the government, the National coordinator of the take it back movement have promised to put an end to the hardship by joining the NLC in their nationwide strike mass action.
