Nigerian Army Announces Major Leadership Reshuffle With New GOCs And Chiefs Appointed.

The Nigerian Army has unveiled a significant restructuring of its high command, effective between 19 and 25 August 2025, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and combat readiness. Announced on Sunday, 17 August 2025, by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the redeployment includes new appointments for General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), corps commanders, and heads of training institutions, reflecting a strategic push to strengthen leadership across critical formations.

Key appointments include Major General A.A. Adeyinka as Chief of Logistics (Army), transitioning from the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport to the Department of Army Logistics. Major General A.A. Adekeye moves from the Department of Standard and Evaluation to become Chief of Personnel Management (Army), while Major General T.B. Ugiagbe, previously with the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps, takes on the role of Chief of Standard and Evaluation. Major General A.A. Idris has been named Chief of Military Intelligence (Army) from Defence Headquarters, and Major General M.O. Erebulu is the new Provost Marshal (Army), moving from the Department of Special Services and Programmes. Additionally, Major General E.A. Anaryu assumes the role of Corps Commander of Supply and Transport, and Major General J.E. Osifo is now Director General of the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation.

New GOCs include Major General A.S.M. Wase, appointed to lead 1 Division in Kaduna and serve as Commander of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA. Major General C.R. Nnebeife will head 2 Division in Ibadan and command Sector 3 of the same operation. At training institutions, Major General M.O. Ihanuwaze becomes Commandant of the Nigerian Army Finance School, Major General K.O. Osemwegie takes charge of the Army Signal School, and Major General A.C. Adetoba is appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management. Brigade-level appointments include Brigadier General M. Jimoh as Commander of 1 Brigade, Brigadier General N.E. Okoloagu for 2 Brigade, and Brigadier General A.A. Bello for 6 Division Garrison, Sector 3, Joint Task Force South South, Operation DELTA SAFE.

Lieutenant General Oluyede urged the newly appointed officers to intensify efforts in tackling terrorism, insurgency, and emerging security threats, emphasising that troop welfare remains central to operational success. Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, stated that the reshuffle aims to reposition the Nigerian Army for greater efficiency in addressing the nation’s complex security challenges, including cyber warfare and regional instability.

The appointments, particularly in intelligence and logistics, underscore a commitment to modernising the force and enhancing discipline. As Nigeria continues to confront multifaceted security issues, the new leadership is poised to play a crucial role in sustaining military efforts and fostering stability.
