Raphael Igbokwe, a renowned Middleweight boxing champion known as “Trouble,” has returned to Nigeria after 12 successful years in the United States, expressing his immense joy and pride in his Nigerian heritage.
During a courtesy visit to Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), in Abuja, Igbokwe enthusiastically shared his sentiments.
“This is the best time I have had in my life. I am super excited to be back home in Nigeria. I love Nigeria,” exclaimed Igbokwe, radiating happiness as he spoke about his return.
The boxer, whose record boasts 18 wins, 3 losses, and 11 knock-outs, described Nigeria as his true home, emphasizing that returning home was the best decision he has ever made. Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, visibly pleased with Igbokwe’s visit, commended him for his achievements, stating, “You make me proud to be a Nigerian.”
Encouraging Igbokwe to continue being a role model to fellow Nigerians, Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the importance of harnessing talents and mentoring youths. She revealed the establishment of the Diaspora Sports Mentorship Programme by NiDCOM, aimed at facilitating skills transfer in sports from the diaspora to Nigeria.
Raphael Igbokwe, who is based in Houston, Texas, USA, expressed his commitment to being a good ambassador for Nigeria, and affirmed his pride in his Nigerian identity.
