Nigerian Government, Leventis Foundation To Award N2m Grants To Young Agripreneurs

The Federal Government, in partnership with the Leventis Foundation Nigeria, has unveiled a N2 million grant initiative aimed at empowering young agripreneurs across the country.

The move is part of ongoing efforts to promote agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship among Nigerian youth.

The announcement was made by the Executive Director of the Leventis Foundation, Hope Usieta, during a press briefing in Abuja ahead of the 2025 Agricultural Youth Summit. Usieta stated that the programme, which will be held on November 6, 2025, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, is designed to reward outstanding young farmers and agribusiness innovators who are transforming agriculture through creativity and technology.

According to Usieta, “This initiative is not just ceremonial it is an investment in youth-led agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship. We believe in the potential of Nigerian youths to drive food security and economic sustainability through agribusiness.” He added that the summit’s theme, “Building Youth and Agripreneurs’ Resilience for Agribusiness through Targeted Upskilling and Innovative Agri-Finance,” reflects the foundation’s commitment to youth development and capacity building.

The event, jointly organised with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), will feature training workshops, exhibitions, and panel discussions on micro and backyard gardening, product packaging, and access to digital tools for small and medium enterprises. Participants will also receive guidance on developing viable business plans and securing finance for agricultural ventures.

NYSC’s Director of Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), Kehinde Aremu, commended the collaboration, noting that many ex-corps members have become successful agripreneurs after being exposed to the programme. “Access to finance remains one of the biggest hurdles for young farmers. This partnership offers a practical solution to that challenge,” he said.

The organisers reaffirmed that the initiative would create a ripple effect of agricultural transformation by supporting innovative ideas and sustainable farming models. They expressed optimism that this collaboration between the government and the Leventis Foundation would inspire a new generation of agribusiness leaders committed to food security and economic growth.
