The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has issued a stern ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu, giving him 14 days to implement effective measures to combat the escalating cost of living crisis gripping the nation.
Expressing grave concern over the hardships faced by Nigerians, NANS Southwest Zone D stressed the urgent need for decisive action to alleviate the burden of inflation, unemployment, and a weakening currency.
At a media briefing held in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, NANS Southwest Zone D Coordinator, Comrade Alao John, and Secretary General, Comrade Sanni Sulaimon Olamide, highlighted the dire economic challenges plaguing the populace.
“Many families are struggling to make ends meet, with stagnant wages and rising prices pushing them further into poverty.
They stated the plight of families struggling to afford basic necessities amidst stagnant wages and soaring prices.
The student body called upon President Tinubu to prioritize the welfare of Nigerian citizens and address the worsening situation promptly.
Failure to respond to their demands and implement concrete measures within the stipulated timeframe, they warned, would trigger mass protests across the nation.
NANS Southwest Zone D urged all relevant stakeholders, including government officials, policymakers, and civil society organizations, to collaborate in tackling the urgent needs of the Nigerian people.
“There is urgent need for swift and decisive action to mitigate the impact of the cost of living crisis and restore hope and dignity to millions of struggling Nigerians.”
With the issuance of a clear ultimatum and a commitment to mobilize mass protests if necessary, NANS has signaled its determination to hold the government accountable and advocate for the welfare of the populace.
