The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment has unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at accelerating the country’s development trajectory.

The announcement came during the Ministerial Press Briefing Series (MPBS) moderated by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at the National Press Center in Abuja.

speaking about the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, Minister Idris stressed the importance of direct engagement with the media to ensure accurate reporting and informed public discourse. He emphasized the role of journalists in holding officials accountable and pledged to keep the Nigerian populace informed every step of the way.

Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, outlined key initiatives aligned with the Renewed Hope agenda, focusing on economic growth, job creation, access to capital, improved business environment, and poverty reduction. Notable among these initiatives is Nigeria’s negotiation to join the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA), aiming to diversify exports, expand market access, and attract foreign direct investment.

Dr. Uzoka-Anite highlighted several strategic programs underway at the Ministry, including reforms in commodity trading, establishment of a National Job Centre, and the Skill-UP Artisans program (SUPA) aimed at empowering 10 million artisans with tech-enabled skills.

Moreover, the Ministry is revamping its Diaspora investment initiative and has successfully engaged in bilateral discussions resulting in significant Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) pledges. Collaborations with countries like India, Germany, and the Netherlands further enhance investment opportunities and regulatory frameworks.

Acknowledging challenges such as infrastructure deficits and bureaucratic hurdles, Dr. Uzoka-Anite reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to innovative solutions and cross-sector collaboration. Initiatives like the National Trade Intelligence Unit aim to provide valuable trade data and forecasts to enhance market efficiency and ease of doing business.

The event was attended by government officials including Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Dr. Ngozi Onwudiwe, along with Chief Executive Officers of agencies under the two Ministries.
