Nottingham Forest Down Wolves To Consolidate On Top Ranking: As Reds Clash Looms.

In a season that has defied all predictions, Nottingham Forest are set to face Liverpool in a top-of-the-table clash at the City Ground next week. The match, scheduled for Tuesday, 14 January, comes hot on the heels of Forest’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Wolves on Monday, positioning them just six points behind the league leaders.

Under the stewardship of Nuno Espirito Santo, who took over from a tumultuous past season where Forest narrowly avoided relegation and faced a points deduction, the team has undergone a remarkable transformation. This unexpected rise has fans and pundits alike talking about the possibility of Forest contending for the title.

Despite the buzz, Nuno remains characteristically grounded. In his post-match conference after the Wolves game, he humorously noted he would only glance at the league table at the season’s end. “I don’t know, maybe the end of the season I’ll take a look. I promise you guys I will,” he said with a smile. His focus remains on enjoying the journey rather than the destination, emphasizing team cohesion over league standings.

However, the upcoming match against Liverpool is hard to ignore, especially after Forest’s earlier victory against them at Anfield. Yet, Nuno deftly sidestepped direct questions about the Liverpool game, focusing instead on the upcoming FA Cup match against Luton. “We must prepare well for that game,” he stated, highlighting the importance of squad rotation and player fitness for the long season ahead.

Forest’s performance against Wolves was not just about points; it was a statement of intent. They are the only team to have beaten Liverpool in the Premier League this season, and a double over Arne Slot’s side could solidify their position as serious contenders. “If they beat Liverpool they are in the title race,” commented former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports, adding that with the Champions League potentially expanding to include the top five teams, Forest’s chances are looking even brighter.

The dream of European football is now palpable among the Forest faithful. Midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, who opened the scoring against Wolves, expressed the collective ambition. “It would be absolutely incredible,” he remarked, dreaming of giving fans a taste of European nights for the first time since the mid-90s.

England manager Thomas Tuchel was also spotted at Molineux, potentially scouting talent like Gibbs-White, who has had an impressive season following his debut under Lee Carsley. Gibbs-White’s focus, however, remains on club football, though he couldn’t help but smile at the prospect of an England call-up.

As Forest gear up for their crucial matches, the blend of tactical nous, team spirit, and individual brilliance under Nuno Espirito Santo’s guidance has turned the City Ground into a fortress, with each game adding to the narrative of an extraordinary season. With 40 points from 20 games, Forest are not just surviving; they are thriving, and the football world is taking notice.
