The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been thrown into mourning following the death of its Ogun State Public Education Officer, Chief Route Commander Florence Okpe.

She reportedly died on Tuesday in her hometown in Cross River State after battling an undisclosed illness.

Confirming the sad news, Ogun State Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, said Okpe had been ill for some time before her passing. “We lost Okpe this morning, Tuesday; her family has confirmed the sad news. She had been sick for a while and attending the clinic here in Ogun until she was granted medical leave. She later travelled to her hometown in Cross River State, where she eventually died,” Fasakin said.

Okpe, who served diligently as the Public Education Officer of the Ogun FRSC Command, was widely known for her professionalism and commitment to public safety campaigns. Her efforts in promoting road safety awareness across Ogun and neighbouring states earned her respect within and outside the agency.

In an emotional tribute, Fasakin described her as “an enigma, a very sound, resourceful and professional officer of unparalleled dedication to duty. I have sincerely lost a very dutiful officer. She was very dear to me, and it’s been a sad day since we were told of her death.” His words captured the deep sense of loss felt among her colleagues and subordinates.

The FRSC Ogun Command expressed condolences to her family, noting that her contributions to road safety education would not be forgotten. “We commiserate with her family and loved ones and pray that the Almighty God will grant all of us the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss,” the statement read.

Until her passing, Florence Okpe was a prominent figure in the FRSC’s public communication efforts, known for her firm yet compassionate voice on road safety matters. Her legacy as a dedicated officer and mentor will continue to inspire many within the Corps and beyond.
