The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Frank Mba, has said he would investigate why Governor Dapo Abiodun visited the polling unit of his opponent, Ladi Adebutu, during last Saturday’s presidential election.
Abiodun and Adebutu, both indigenes of Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, are contesting for the post of the governor under the platforms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), respectively.
DAILY POST reported that Abiodun had, during the last election, stormed Adebutu’s polling unit inside Wesley Primary School, Iperu, after he had cast his vote.
The purpose of the visit was unknown as it generated reactions from Adebutu, who accused the governor of “gallivanting around in total violation of the law.”
During an interactive session between security agents and candidates of political parties ahead of the governorship poll in Abeokuta, the State Chairman of the PDP, Sikirullahi Ogundele, spoke about the development.
Ogundele had expressed concern that what the governor did during the election was against the electoral law, yet the police looked away.
However, CP Mba denied any knowledge of the incident even as he vowed to investigate same.
“On the alleged movement of the governor at the polling unit on the election day, honestly, this is the first time I’m hearing it.
“I will investigate, I will find out if it indeed happened. If it happened, I will do everything within my powers to ensure it doesn’t happen again,” Mba said.
He warned political leaders to desist from moving around during the March 11 election, saying, “I will not allow anybody to move around on the election day.”
He assured all political parties that security agents would be fair to all during the next poll.
