The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Ondo state, which took place on Saturday, April 20, faced significant challenges and remains inconclusive as of today.
The announcement of the election results, scheduled to commence at 7 am, was put on hold.
The primary election, conducted across 203 wards in the state, was marred by incidents of violence in certain wards of Akure, Okitipupa, and Ilaje. Some aspirants raised concerns over the non-availability of election materials, leading to protests.
A member of the Primary Election Committee, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the election was inconclusive in areas of Okitipupa and other parts of the state. Final collation of results is slated to begin once the remaining elections are concluded.
Journalists, stationed at the Dome International Event Center, the venue for result collation and announcement, spent several hours awaiting updates. The situation underscores the challenges and tensions surrounding the electoral process in Ondo state.
