Ortom Reaffirms Loyalty To PDP, Declares Party Will Reclaim Benue

Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, insisting that the opposition party will bounce back to reclaim leadership of the state in the 2027 general elections.

He made the declaration while addressing members of the PDP G-14 and other party stakeholders from Zones A and B during a meeting held in Makurdi.

Ortom dismissed rumours that he was planning to defect to another party, describing such reports as the handiwork of political mischief makers. He stated that he had no intention of leaving the PDP, emphasising that his focus remains on helping the party rebuild its strength and unity across all local government areas in Benue State. “I am a founding member of the PDP and I remain committed to its ideals. Those spreading false stories about defection are only seeking cheap attention,” he said.

The former governor, who noted that he would not be contesting any position in 2027, pledged to give full support to the PDP and its candidates at all levels. Ortom urged party members to stay united and work together to ensure victory at the next polls, adding that internal disagreements must be resolved amicably for the greater interest of the party. He encouraged aspirants to consult widely and remain focused despite ongoing defections to the ruling party.

Leader of the PDP G-14, Dr Laha Dzever, expressed appreciation to Ortom for his continuous guidance and leadership, assuring him of the group’s total loyalty. He commended the former governor for his commitment to party growth, describing him as a stabilising figure who has continued to stand firm with the PDP even after leaving office.

The state Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Azua Ashongo, also lauded Ortom’s efforts and urged stakeholders to prioritise credibility when selecting candidates for future elections. He said this would further strengthen the party’s image and restore public confidence. “We must field candidates who will uphold the PDP’s integrity and values. That is the only way we can rebuild trust among the electorate,” Ashongo said.

In separate remarks, Ambassador Chive Kaave and Senator Fred Orti pledged continued support for Ortom and the PDP, affirming that members across the two senatorial zones were ready to work for the party’s success. The meeting was attended by members of the Benue State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, youth leaders, women representatives, former aspirants, and other key stakeholders determined to reposition the PDP for victory.
