Patrice Motsepe Re-Elected As CAF President For A Second Term.
Dr Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected unopposed as president of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) for a second four-year term. The decision was confirmed during the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday, extending his tenure until 2029.
Motsepe’s re-election follows a widely praised first term, during which he played a key role in stabilising CAF’s finances and enhancing its global profile. Under his leadership, the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire set new records, attracting an unprecedented 1.4 billion viewers worldwide.
CAF has also increased prize money for its major tournaments, including the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, while financial support for member associations has seen significant improvements.
The 63-year-old faced no challengers after the nomination deadline passed in November 2024, following calls from member association presidents and key stakeholders for him to continue his leadership.
Speaking after his re-election, Motsepe reaffirmed his commitment to African football, stating:
“The goal remains making African football globally competitive, stabilising finances, and investing in infrastructure.”
His unopposed re-election reflects the confidence and trust placed in him to lead African football to greater heights over the next four years.
