Peter Obi Dismisses Claims Of Joining APC

Peter Obi Dismisses Claims Of Joining APC.

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has denied rumours suggesting he is planning to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obi addressed the speculation in a post on X, refuting claims that his name was mentioned at an APC gathering. He emphasised his commitment to ethical politics, stating:

“Let me make it unequivocally clear: I do not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or any form of political manipulation. My name should not be associated with such narratives.

“For the avoidance of doubt, both now and in the future, I am not a member of the APC, nor am I an intending member. My stance on politics has always been rooted in integrity, fairness, and issue-based engagement.”

Obi reiterated that political parties should assess aspirants based on competence, capacity, and compassion—qualities he believes are essential for progress in Anambra and Nigeria as a whole.

Speaking on former Labour Party member Valentine Ozigbo, who has joined the APC, Obi maintained that Ozigbo, like all other aspirants, should be evaluated on leadership qualities rather than personal attacks.

He also stressed the importance of free and fair primaries, regardless of the method used, and urged political parties to ensure credibility in the selection process.

“As we approach the Anambra State governorship election in November, I sincerely hope that all parties, including mine, will ensure a transparent and democratic process,” he said.

Obi called on all stakeholders to reject toxic politics and focus on fostering a true democratic system, which he believes remains lacking in Nigeria.
