Presidency Launches Citizens’ Delivery Tracker For Monitoring Government Performance

In a bid to establish a robust feedback mechanism between citizens and the government, the Presidency has introduced the Citizens’ Delivery Tracker (CDT) aimed at tracking progress in eight key priority areas under the administration of Bola Tinubu.

The President’s Special Adviser on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala-Usman, made this announcement during the official launch of the CDT held in Abuja on Monday.

Bala-Usman emphasised that the platform, currently accessible through a web link (app.cdcu.gov.ng), will soon be available as a downloadable app within the coming months.

This unveiling marks the culmination of months of meticulous planning since Tinubu’s declaration of plans for ministerial assessment during the Cabinet Retreat for ministers and heads of government agencies last November.

Explaining the process of establishing key performance indicators, Bala-Usman highlighted that the CDCU engaged in extensive bilateral discussions with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies within a six-week timeframe.

The eight priority areas identified for focus include economic reform for sustained inclusive growth, national security enhancement, agricultural development for food security, and sustainable exploitation of energy and natural resources.

Additionally, attention will be directed towards infrastructure and transportation improvement, as well as investments in education, health, and social welfare. Accelerating diversification through industrialization, digitization, creative arts, manufacturing, and innovation, along with governance enhancement for effective service delivery, complete the list of priorities.

In an earlier interview on TVC in October, Bala-Usman underscored the government’s commitment to citizen engagement in the ministerial assessment process. She elaborated on plans to deploy a software application enabling citizens to report on project-based deliverables committed by the federal government until 2024.

The initiative saw the drafting of over 140 officials tasked with monitoring and assessing the performance of federal ministries, departments, and agencies. These officials participated in the third technical retreat for delivery desk officers in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, from January 24th onwards.

Comprising representatives from 35 federal government ministries, departments, and agencies, the officials, including permanent secretaries and directors of planning, deliberated on the assessment modalities, key performance indicators, and reporting mechanisms.

As the CDT takes its place as a crucial tool for accountability and transparency, further details on its implementation are expected to emerge in due course.
