President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, presiding over the flag-off ceremony at the Lagos end of Victoria Island.

This 700-kilometre road, which will traverse eight states and terminate in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, is expected to significantly boost economic growth, particularly in the states it connects.

The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who accompanied President Tinubu at the site. The event also drew governors, deputy governors, the President’s Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, ministers, members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, and other notable figures.

Among the distinguished guests were Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu, Lagos Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu (represented by Deputy Governor Femi Hamzat), Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, as well as Governors Hope Uzodimma of Imo, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Dikko Radda of Katsina, and Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto.

Other prominent attendees included Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ondo State Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu, Minister for Special Duties Zephaniah Jisalo, and Chairman of Dangote Group Aliko Dangote. Members of the National Assembly, Lagos State House of Assembly, Lagos State Executive Council, and various traditional rulers were also present.

The flag-off of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road follows the recent commissioning of the reconstructed Apapa-Oworonshoki-Ojota Expressway and the rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge, marking significant strides in Nigeria’s infrastructure development under President Tinubu’s administration.
