President Bola Tinubu has departed Abuja for Ibadan, Oyo State, to attend the coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja.

The President’s aircraft took off from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Friday.

In Ibadan, President Tinubu will lead an array of dignitaries to witness the official installation of the new monarch at the historic Mapo Hall. The coronation ceremony promises to be a grand affair, with traditional rulers, political leaders, and notable personalities in attendance.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar,  serving Senators, House of Representatives members, and traditional rulers are among the dignitaries expected to attend the ceremony. Other notable attendees include the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade; Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi; Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye; and Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal.

Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, emerged as the 44th Olubadan following the demise of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7, 2025. Excitement is building up across Ibadan as the city witnesses Ladoja’s ascension to the revered throne. “Ibadan stands at a crossroads of tradition and modernity,” one resident noted.

As the coronation ceremony unfolds, President Tinubu will join other dignitaries to witness the final installation of the monarch at the historic Mapo Hall. The event marks a significant milestone in Ibadan’s history, with expectations high that Oba Ladoja’s reign will bring progress, unity, and renewed pride to the ancient city.

The coronation ceremony is expected to draw large crowds, with security and other arrangements in place to ensure a smooth and successful event.
