President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, marking another significant step in Nigeria’s expanding diplomatic engagement with strategic global partners.

Deepening Nigeria–Türkiye Relations

The visit is aimed at strengthening the cordial relations between Nigeria and Türkiye, while exploring new areas of collaboration in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.

Diplomatic ties between both countries have continued to grow, following Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s official visit to Nigeria in October 2021.

High-Level Talks on Trade, Security and Investment

During the visit, President Tinubu and Turkish authorities will hold strategic political and diplomatic discussions centered on shared interests in finance, communication, trade, and investment.

Meetings between senior officials of both nations are expected to set the tone for expanded cooperation across multiple sectors.

Key MoUs to Be Signed

A major highlight of the visit will be the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs), covering scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration, and diplomatic protocol.

Business Forum to Boost Economic Ties

A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will convene investors and private sector leaders from both countries, providing a platform to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic partnerships.

Strong Delegation for Bilateral Engagements

President Tinubu will be accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.

Security, Culture and Social Development in Focus

Also participating in the visit are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

President to Return After Visit

President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the state visit.
