President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently presiding over a National Security Council meeting at the State House in Abuja. The meeting, held in the President’s office, is attended by all heads of security and law enforcement agencies, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
This high-level gathering comes amidst nationwide protests against hunger and bad governance. In a recent national broadcast, President Tinubu addressed the organisers of the protests, urging them to suspend their actions, especially in light of the escalating violence in some states, which has resulted in the loss of lives and property destruction. The president assured the protesters that their grievances had been heard, but also warned against any attempts to destabilise the country’s democracy, attributing such moves to opposition politicians.
Key security and law enforcement figures present at the meeting include Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, the three service chiefs, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Director-General of the Department of State Service Yusuf Bichi, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Ahmed Rufai, Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service Col Adewale Adeniyi, and Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service Kemi Nanna Nandap.
