President Bola Tinubu is set to attend the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, September 26, 2025.

The former Oyo State governor and senator confirmed the news during a royal visit by a delegation from Ode-Omu, Osun State, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan.

The historic coronation ceremony will take place at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, and is expected to attract prominent Yoruba monarchs, political leaders, captains of industry, and thousands of Ibadan sons and daughters.

Oba Ladoja said, “I am honored to ascend the Olubadan throne, and I look forward to welcoming our distinguished guests, including President Tinubu, as we celebrate our rich cultural heritage.”

The week-long celebration, organized by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), begins on Monday, September 22, with interfaith prayers at the Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo. Highlights include a stage play on the progenitor of the Olubadan, Arusa, at Apex Hall, Yidi-Agodi, a cultural day event at Olubadan Stadium, and the first Olubadan Coronation Lecture delivered by Professor Toyin Falola at the University of Ibadan on Wednesday, September 24.

Islamic prayers at the Olubadan Palace and a mega praise and worship service at the Civic Centre, Agodi, are scheduled for Thursday, September 25. The coronation itself will take place on Friday, September 26, followed by a reception at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium. The festivities will conclude on Friday, October 3, with a special Jumat service at the Ibadan Central Mosque, Oja’ba.

The Oyo State Government has deployed over 2,000 security personnel to ensure a peaceful and well-coordinated event. Oba Ladoja’s ascension coincides with his 81st birthday on Thursday, September 25, making the week-long celebration a double festivity for the people of Ibadan.
