President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the appointments of five individuals as directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Hon. Amidu Tadese Raheem as Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC).

The announcement came as Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Tinubu’s letter on the Senate floor, emphasizing the compliance with relevant legislative provisions. Tinubu, in his letter, cited Section 6(1a) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Establishment Act 2007 and Section 154(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, as the legal basis for the appointments.

Expressing confidence in the capabilities of the nominees, Tinubu highlighted the importance of their roles within the country’s financial and demographic frameworks. “I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointments of the underlisted five persons as directors of the board of the CBN: Robert O. Agbide, Ado Yakubu Wanga, Murtala Sagaley, Urom Eke, and Olayinka Aliyu,” Tinubu stated.

Akpabio promptly referred the request to the Committee on Banking, Finance, and other Financial Institutions for further legislative scrutiny, setting a timeline of one week for the committee’s action.

Simultaneously, Tinubu urged the Senate to consider the confirmation of Hon. Amidu Tadese Raheem from Osun State as a Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC). The nominee, a distinguished university lecturer and current Head of Department of Public Administration at Fountain University, Osogbo, boasts a rich academic background.

“While hoping that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration,” Tinubu conveyed to the Senate.

Amidu Tadese Raheem, a member of the esteemed Tadese royal family in Iwo, Osun State, holds multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Oduduwa University, Ile-Ife, and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Obafemi Awolowo University. His experience includes serving as a Chief Whip in the Osun State House of Assembly, representing Iwo Constituency 1, following the state’s creation from old Oyo State in 1992.
