PSC Appoints New DIG, Promotes Senior Police Officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dankwara Adamu Mohammed as the new Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police representing the North East geopolitical zone.

His appointment follows the retirement of DIG Sahabu Abubakar Yahaya, whom he replaces.

The Commission also announced the promotion of Commissioner of Police (CP) Abibo Deinma Reuben to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG). In addition, eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were elevated to the position of substantive Commissioners of Police, including Naziru Bello Kankarofi, Nendel Joseph Gomwalk, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, Wilson Aniefiok Akpan, and Morkwap Dongshal among others.

According to a statement issued by the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the promotions were part of the decisions reached during the 2nd Plenary Meeting of the PSC held at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall in Abuja. The meeting was presided over by the Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), alongside other commissioners including Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Justice Christine Ladi Dabup, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.





The PSC further approved the promotion of 13 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of Deputy Commissioners (DCPs). Those promoted include David Gbenga Ojo, Umaru Bello Bichi, Bala Salihu Jarumai, Makanjuola Abiodun, and Mohammed Ajose. Others are Omololu Vaughan, Linus Ogbodo, and Emmanuel Anene Ogbuanya. In addition, 44 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to Assistant Commissioners, while 412 Superintendents (SPs) advanced to the rank of Chief Superintendents.

Some of the newly promoted officers include Victoria Olayinka Mulero, Commanding Officer of SPU Base 22 in Oyo State; Alirat Odunola Adedeji; and Conchita Ngozi Uzoma Braide. Among those elevated to Chief Superintendent are Odey Peters Idaba, Emmanuel Peter Okoh, and Ngozi Ajaegbu of the Police Special Fraud Unit in Lagos. The promotions also covered officers from various commands across the country, reflecting the PSC’s commitment to rewarding merit and performance.

Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), congratulated all the promoted officers and urged them to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation. He emphasized that the promotions were based on merit and discipline, calling on the officers to uphold professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
