Idris Dahiru, a resident of Tudun Biri in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has revealed the devastating toll on his family in the aftermath of the Nigerian Army’s aerial bombardment on Sunday evening. Dahiru shared that 34 of his family members lost their lives during the incident, which occurred as villagers gathered to commemorate Maulud.
Reports gathered suggest that over 90 villagers lost their lives in the tragic incident, as a Nigerian Army drone struck a gathering of residents participating in the Maulud celebration.
Despite the army expressing regret over the bombing and asserting that it was targeted at terrorists, Dahiru’s firsthand account paints a harrowing picture of the unexpected and devastating consequences for innocent civilians.
Describing the chaotic scene, Dahiru told BBC Hausa, “Our annual Maulud celebration was shattered by unexpected airstrikes. The first bomb exploded without warning, killing innocent people, including women and children, some victims were torn apart by the blast.”
He further explained that as people rushed to aid the injured, the jet returned, releasing a second bomb, causing additional casualties, including those attempting to provide assistance.
Dahiru’s personal tragedy extends beyond his family, as he highlighted the broader impact on the community, stating, “My family alone has lost 34 members in this tragedy. We have 66 loved ones receiving medical care at Barau Dikko hospital.”
