Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu of Lagos State has inaugurated a new state of the art library complex at the Lagos State University, Ojo.

The facility, named the Babajide Olusola Sanwo Olu Library Complex, is described as the biggest university library in West Africa, equipped with modern technology to enhance learning and research.

Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Sanwo Olu said the library stands as a symbol of Lagos State’s unwavering commitment to education, innovation, and knowledge. He noted that the project goes beyond a physical structure, describing it as a living testament to the transformative power of learning. “This moment is deeply personal for me, not because it bears my name but because it embodies the ideals that have shaped my journey,” he said.

The governor explained that the library is fully equipped with digital research facilities, reading lounges, innovation labs, and extensive archives. He added that it would serve as a bridge between traditional learning and digital innovation, providing students with resources that meet global standards. “Education remains the bridge between potential and purpose, the most enduring legacy any generation can bequeath to the next,” Sanwo Olu stated.

According to him, the new library reflects his administration’s THEMES Plus agenda, which prioritizes education and technology as critical drivers of development. He commended his predecessors for their contributions to the growth of LASU and said his government has committed more resources than ever to complete the project and improve other educational facilities across the state.

Governor Sanwo Olu emphasized that the library is not just an infrastructure project but a long term investment in the intellectual growth of young people. “Lagos will never stop investing in education because it is the educated mind that creates inventions, heals wounds, and redefines tomorrow,” he said.

He urged students and staff of LASU to take ownership of the facility and ensure it is well maintained. “Leadership is not about leaving names on walls but about leaving an impact in people’s lives,” the governor said. “This library will be a space of discovery, dialogue, and dreaming where the next great author, visionary leader, or even future president will begin their journey.”
