Saudi Arabia Confirms Shawwal Crescent Sighting, Eid al-Fitr To Be Celebrated On Sunday.

Saudi Arabia has announced the sighting of the Shawwal crescent, confirming that Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, 30th March 2025.

The announcement was made via Haramain’s official Facebook page, a recognised platform for the global Muslim community. The statement read: “The crescent moon for the month of Shawwal 1446 was sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025.”

Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday, 31st March, and Tuesday, 1st April, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement issued by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Magdalene Ajani. He congratulated Muslims across the country on the successful completion of Ramadan and urged them to embrace the virtues of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace.

Tunji-Ojo emphasised the importance of love, forgiveness, and solidarity in fostering national unity. He also encouraged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for peace, stability, and prosperity in the nation.

“Dr. Tunji-Ojo also encouraged citizens to celebrate safely and responsibly while remembering the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity, in keeping with the true spirit of Ramadan and Eid,” the statement read.

On behalf of the Federal Government, the minister extended warm Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful and expressed hope that the season’s blessings bring happiness, success, and fulfilment to everyone.
