Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is currently in France for his first official visit outside Africa, aiming to redefine Senegal-France relations.
President Faye, who assumed office on April 2, arrived in Paris on Wednesday to participate in the Global Forum for Vaccine Sovereignty and Innovation.
During his visit, President Faye met with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss ways to rethink and enhance the longstanding relationship between Senegal and France.
“Senegal wants to rethink the relations with France, but to do so, discussions are necessary,” Faye stated.
At the Global Forum for Vaccine Sovereignty and Innovation, which took place on Thursday, President Faye joined other leaders to address Africa’s health crises.
The forum’s objectives include launching the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA) and initiating Gavi’s replenishment campaign for 2026-2030.
The AVMA aims to provide African nations with greater health sovereignty by enabling the continent to produce at least 60% of its vaccine doses by 2040, in collaboration with the African Union.
Gavi’s replenishment campaign seeks financial commitments from donor governments, private sector partners, foundations, and other stakeholders to fund vaccination programs for the next five years.
