Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner continued his exceptional form by cruising past Australia’s Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-4 to reach the Vienna Open final for the second time in his career.
The victory marked his 20th straight win on indoor hardcourts and his eighth final appearance this season, further establishing him as one of the most consistent players on the ATP Tour.
The top seed wasted no time asserting dominance as he stormed through the opening games, breaking his opponent twice to secure a commanding 4-0 lead within the first 15 minutes. Sinner’s aggressive baseline play and sharp returns left De Minaur struggling to find rhythm early in the contest, with the Italian looking every bit like the defending champion he is.
De Minaur, the tournament’s third seed, showed some resistance as he managed to break back and get on the scoreboard, earning applause from the Vienna crowd for his fighting spirit. However, any hopes of a turnaround were short-lived. Sinner regained control with his precise groundstrokes and sealed the first set after a powerful forehand winner that left De Minaur helpless.
The second set saw more competitive rallies as both players traded breaks, but Sinner’s superior shot placement and composure in key moments made the difference. The Italian broke serve again at 4-3 and never looked back, keeping his composure while maintaining relentless pressure on the Australian throughout.
By the final game, the writing was on the wall. De Minaur, visibly dejected on his chair during the changeover, could do little as Sinner served out the match to love, extending his perfect 12-0 career record against the Australian. “It’s always tough to play Alex, but I’m happy with the way I handled the match,” Sinner said after his victory.
Sinner now awaits the winner of the second semifinal between Germany’s Alexander Zverev and fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti. A win in the final would hand the 23-year-old his seventh ATP title of the year and further boost his momentum heading into the closing stages of the season.
