Six high and senior chiefs on the Otun Olubadan line in Ibadanland are set for promotion this Friday, barring any last‑minute changes.

The elevation will be marked by the traditional “akoko” leaf ceremony, which will be performed by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

The promotions became necessary following the enthronement of Oba Ladoja, who was previously the Otun Olubadan, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The new appointments aim to fill the vacancies left by the recent changes in the chieftaincy hierarchy.

The chiefs due for promotion include Oba Eddy Oyewole, Oba Kola Daisi, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, Oba Adebayo Akande, Senior Chief Lekan Alabi, and Senior Chief Kola Babalola. Each will move to the next traditional rank in line with the Olubadan succession plan.

If confirmed, the elevations will see Oba Oyewole move from Osi Olubadan to Otun Olubadan, Oba Ajibade from Ekerin Olubadan to Asipa Olubadan, Oba Akande from Ekaarun Olubadan to Ekerin Olubadan, Senior Chief Alabi from Maye Olubadan to Abese Olubadan, and Senior Chief Babalola from Abese Olubadan to Ekaarun Olubadan.

The promotion ceremony is scheduled to take place at the new Olubadan palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area. It will mark the first traditional ceremony conducted by Oba Ladoja since his enthronement on Friday, September 26, 2025.
