NiMet Issues Rainfall Advisory To Ensure Public Safety.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather advisory predicting three days of moderate to heavy rainfall across parts of the country, urging the public to remain cautious and prioritise safety during this period.
According to NiMet’s bulletin released on Tuesday, the forecast covers the period between Wednesday, 9 April, and Friday, 11 April 2025. The states expected to experience significant rainfall include Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, and Ogun.
In addition to these, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in Ondo, Lagos, Imo, Abia, Ekiti, and several other states. Meanwhile, the rest of the country will likely see very light rainfall or dry conditions throughout the forecast period.
The advisory is part of NiMet’s commitment to keeping Nigerians informed and prepared, especially during periods of weather changes that could affect daily life and safety.
While highlighting the likelihood of flash floods in affected areas, the agency also drew attention to associated hazards such as strong winds, slippery road surfaces, and reduced visibility, all of which could disrupt road travel and potentially damage weak structures, trees, and masts.
To ensure public safety, NiMet has advised residents in affected areas to avoid driving through surface runoff waters, which may appear shallow but could have dangerous undercurrents. The agency also encouraged Nigerians to disconnect electrical appliances before the onset of rain, in order to prevent electrical accidents.
