The Nigerian Army has officially withdrawn its troops from the troubled Okuama community situated in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

This move comes after a harrowing incident on March 14th, where four Army officers and 13 soldiers were brutally murdered, sparking widespread fear and prompting residents to flee for their safety.

The community, which had previously enjoyed peace and security, was left reeling from the gruesome killings, with residents fearing further violence.

However, following extensive efforts towards resolution, including the burial of the victims and the release of the detained King, a breakthrough has been achieved.

Confirming the withdrawal of military presence, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of handling security matters with tact, wisdom, and patience.

Expressing gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, and the Nigerian Army hierarchy for their cooperation, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the commitment of the state government to enhanced peace and security, as outlined in the MORE agenda.

Furthermore, the Governor commended the support received from various quarters, including the National Assembly, traditional rulers, and other leaders, throughout the Okuama saga.

He assured all Deltans of the administration’s dedication to facilitating the smooth reintegration of Okuama residents into their homes.

Following a personal assessment of the community, plans are underway to establish an Internally Displaced Persons Camp at Ewu, aimed at aiding the rehabilitation process. The government pledges to provide the necessary assistance to ensure a swift and seamless return for the displaced residents.

Looking ahead, Governor Oborevwori expressed hope that Delta State would never again experience the tragedy witnessed in Okuama. Emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility, he called for continued support and cooperation from all citizens to maintain the safety and peace of the state.

Governor Oborevwori extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the Okuama incident, underscoring the importance of unity and resilience in the face of adversity.
