The State House has addressed former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s recent statement, labelling it “reckless” and falling short of expectations for an elder statesman.Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, released the statement on January 30, 2024.
Alhaji Atiku had accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of neglecting security and economic challenges, following a previous allegation regarding NNPC Limited’s crude-for-loan deal. The State House suggested that Atiku’s comments may be rooted in lingering disappointment from his electoral defeat.
Contrary to the accusation, the press release emphasised that President Tinubu had been actively engaged in domestic affairs, even during his private visit to France. The President reportedly maintained communication with officials and security chiefs, asserting his leadership by overseeing the inauguration of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage.
In response to security concerns, President Tinubu directed security agencies to combat criminal activities, specifically addressing recent incidents such as the murders of two monarchs in Ekiti State and the kidnapping of pupils. Notably, the State House reported successful outcomes, with over 139 kidnappers arrested in Abuja, Kaduna, and Benue States within the past week. Security forces also rescued 154 abducted people, showcasing tangible results.
To address ongoing security challenges, President Tinubu approved a N50 billion Special Fund, particularly focusing on the North East. Additionally, funds were allocated for acquiring equipment to enhance the tracking of criminals in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The press release concluded by asserting that President Tinubu is actively supporting security agencies to restore peace nationwide. It called on Atiku to acknowledge the administration’s efforts in addressing security concerns and avoid what it deemed “cheap politics.”
