Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face Mozambique national team in a friendly test next month, the Mozambican Football Federation has announced on Tuesday.

Having sealed qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in thirteen years, the Mozambique Football Federation (FMF) has now stepped up preparations for the team’s participation by announcing friendly matches against two African nations.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria and fellow former Portuguese colony Guinea Bissau who are making back-to-back appearances at Africa’s premier football competition.

Taking advantage of both countries’ presence in Portugal during the October international window, Mozambique have now confirmed a meeting with both countries between 8th to 17th of next month.

“Taking advantage of the presence in Algarve of these two teams, also qualified for CAN-2024, the management of the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF), in coordination with its technical team, agreed to the invitation formulated by the organizers, in fulfillment of the preparation of the “Mambas” for the upcoming official competition,” the FMF wrote on its official website.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria already have a date with Saudi Arabia at the Portimão Municipal Stadium on the 13th of October and will now face The Mambas of Mozambique three days later at Complexo Desportivo Villa Real de Santo Antonio.

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro is expected to use the friendly matches against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique to prepare his wards ahead of the commencement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November when Nigeria will face Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Nigeria defeated Mozambique 3-0 in the Southern African side’s last match at an AFCON tournament on January 20, 2010 in Lubango, Angola.

They earned qualification for next January’s tournament after a 3-2 win over Benin Republic, coached by former Nigerian trainer Gernot Rohr.

In the next few hours, the Mozambique head coach, Chiquinho Conde, is expected to release the list of players who will play the two friendly games included in the FIFA International window.
