The Super Falcons have officially begun preparations for their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers against the Benin Republic.

Eight players have already arrived in Lomé, Togo, to start training ahead of the first leg scheduled for Thursday, October 24, at the Stade de Kégué. The return leg will hold on Monday, October 28, at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Among the early arrivals are captain Asisat Oshoala, Taiwo Afolabi, Folashade Ijamilusi, Miracle Usani, Joy Omewa, Anderline Mgbechi, Blessing Illivieda, and Kafayat Mafisere. Nigeria, who hold a record ten WAFCON titles, aim to assert their dominance once again and make a strong statement as they prepare for the 2026 continental tournament.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Gambian referee Fatou Ngum as the centre referee for the first leg. Other match officials will be drawn from Gambia and other parts of Africa, ensuring a well-officiated encounter.

Benin Republic’s head coach, Abdoulaye Ouzerou, expressed confidence in his squad, stating the team is not intimidated by Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football. “We are ready to face the Super Falcons and compete fully in both legs,” he said.

The Super Falcons are targeting qualification for a record-extending 15th WAFCON appearance and aim to defend their title. The final qualifying round against Benin Republic is critical to achieving this milestone and setting the tone for the upcoming 2026 WAFCON.

With their preparations underway in Togo, Nigeria’s champions are expected to deliver strong performances and continue their legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
