The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has announced that Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), in Ondo State, has received a total allocation of N8.18 billion to enhance infrastructure and academic facilities across the campus.

The funds, according to TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, reflect the government’s continued commitment to improving the standard of tertiary education in Nigeria.

Speaking during the commissioning of five newly completed projects at the institution, Echono, who was represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Arch. Babatunde Olajide, disclosed that RUGIPO has already accessed N5.57 billion from the allocated amount. He added that the remaining N2.61 billion has been earmarked for ongoing projects designed to modernize academic structures and learning environments.

Echono explained that the recently inaugurated projects include the Faculty of Applied Sciences building, the Faculty of Engineering Technology complex, a 250-seater twin lecture theatre, and fully furnished academic staff offices. He noted that these TETFund-sponsored facilities are valued at over N1.7 billion and will significantly improve both teaching and learning outcomes at the polytechnic.

According to him, the Tinubu administration remains steadfast in its support for tertiary institutions, ensuring that interventions from TETFund are strategically directed to improve infrastructure, research capacity, and staff development nationwide. “We are committed to ensuring that funds allocated to institutions are properly utilized to uplift educational standards,” he stated.

The Acting Rector of RUGIPO, Olorunwa Adegun, commended TETFund for its consistent support, describing the interventions as vital to the school’s progress and sustainability. He emphasized that the polytechnic has maintained a reputation for accountability in managing all funds received, ensuring that each project meets the required specifications despite the economic challenges in the country.

Adegun appealed to TETFund to include RUGIPO in the 2026 Special Intervention and Special High Impact Intervention programmes. He explained that such consideration would enable the polytechnic to establish a modern health centre and build additional hostels to meet the accommodation needs of its growing student population.
