Vice President Sen Kashim Shettima has assured that the Tinubu administration is committed to repositioning the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, to provide quality policy advice to the government. He emphasized the crucial role the institute plays in shaping and retooling government policies.
During a meeting with the management team from NIPSS, led by the Director General, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Vice President Shettima expressed the need to implement the institute’s policy recommendations, considering the evolving global landscape and the institute’s role as a policy think-tank.
He underscored the significance of NIPSS in the context of other global policy institutions and urged the management to make formal presentations of executive summaries of all policy recommendations to the government. Shettima stated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s determination to reset the national agenda and emphasized the administration’s commitment to supporting NIPSS without compromising on quality and standards.
The Vice President cautioned against Africa missing opportunities in the knowledge-driven age, highlighting the importance of addressing contemporary challenges such as artificial intelligence, bio-technology, and internet things.
In response, Prof. Ayo Omotayo briefed the Vice President on NIPSS’s operations, emphasizing its role in advising the government on policy directions and training high-profile policymakers. He highlighted the institute’s comprehensive approach, covering all sectors of the economy.
The delegation included Brig Gen L Y Udaya (rtd), Prof Fumi J. Para-Mallam, Prof Dung Pam Sha, Codr S Dahun, Prof Sola Adeyanjin, Bawa Ahmed, and Dr Catherine Maduagwu.
