President Bola Tinubu condemned the recent Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strike declaration, labeling it as “unacceptable.”
Speaking at the unveiling of the Lagos Red Rail Line project on Thursday, President Tinubu stated that such actions within the first nine months of an administration were unjustifiable.
Addressing the labour leaders directly, President Tinubu stated that they do not hold exclusive representation for the voices of Nigerians.
He urged them to exercise patience and refrain from disrupting the country’s peace, particularly during the critical early stages of governance.
Tinubu’s remarks comes in response to the NLC’s recent decision to declare a nationwide protest. Although initially scheduled for two days, the protest was suspended on its second day. Instead, the Federal Government was given a 14-day ultimatum to address various demands outlined by the NLC.
About the importance of maintaining stability and fostering economic progress, President Tinubu urged labour leaders interested in influencing governance to wait until the next electoral cycle in 2027. He expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its economic challenges through perseverance and collective effort.
