Tinubu Welcomes Buhari Organisation Leaders In Abuja

Tinubu Welcomes Buhari Organisation Leaders In Abuja.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted a delegation from the Buhari Organisation at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, in a meeting that underscored ongoing political alignments within Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The delegation, led by former Nasarawa State Governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura and former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari, convened at the Aso Villa Banquet Hall to discuss matters of national and party significance.

The gathering brought together prominent figures from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), a key bloc that merged with other parties to form the APC in 2013. While specific details of the discussions remain undisclosed, the meeting is widely regarded as part of President Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen ties with allies of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During the meeting, President Tinubu reflected on his relationship with Buhari, recalling their spirited debates during the APC’s formation. He humorously noted a disagreement over the party’s symbol, with Buhari advocating for a parliamentary emblem while Tinubu championed the now-iconic broom, symbolising unity and resistance against corruption. “We disagreed to agree… He’s so stubborn,” Tinubu remarked, highlighting the compromises that shaped the APC’s eventual success in dislodging the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.

The Buhari Organisation’s visit follows recent affirmations of loyalty to Tinubu’s administration by key CPC figures, including Al-Makura, Masari, and 21 other leaders. In a joint statement earlier this year, they dismissed rumours of defections, reaffirming their commitment to the APC and Tinubu’s economic reforms, which they described as essential for Nigeria’s long-term prosperity. The group urged party members to address grievances through internal channels rather than public agitation, emphasising unity as critical for the APC’s future.

The presence of Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda and other northern leaders at the meeting further signals Tinubu’s focus on consolidating support in the North, a region pivotal to the APC’s electoral success. Political analysts suggest the engagement reflects strategic efforts to counter opposition moves and maintain cohesion within the party’s diverse factions.

As Nigeria navigates economic challenges and prepares for the next electoral cycle, President Tinubu’s outreach to the Buhari Organisation underscores his administration’s commitment to fostering collaboration and preserving the APC’s legacy as a unifying force in Nigerian politics.
