In a bid to address Nigeria’s persistent economic challenges, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has put forward recommendations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
During a press conference held in Abuja on Monday, TUC President Festus Osifo emphasized the urgent need for action to alleviate the country’s widespread suffering.
Osifo expressed deep concern over the unprecedented levels of hardship facing Nigerians, surpassing even the difficulties experienced during past military regimes.
He attributed these challenges to the government’s inadequate support for locally produced goods and services, coupled with a dearth of competent leadership.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Osifo urged the government to temporarily relax its emphasis on achieving food sufficiency domestically and instead explore immediate solutions to address hunger.
He advocated for the expedited importation of food from international sources to mitigate the soaring inflation of essential commodities within the country.
In a direct appeal to President Tinubu, Osifo stressed the imperative of bolstering the economic management team and transcending partisan or ethnic considerations in appointing capable individuals to tackle Nigeria’s economic woes.
He urged the administration to identify and engage top-notch talents globally to devise effective strategies tailored to Nigeria’s unique challenges.
Osifo’s propositions underscore the pressing need for decisive action to alleviate the suffering of millions of Nigerians grappling with severe economic hardship.
